  • About Us

On November 4, 1974, twelve members and two guests from the Washington, DC, area met at the home of Ron Gabriel in Chevy Chase, Maryland. This was the first time that a regional group within SABR met formally. The Washington-Baltimore chapter has continued to meet at least once a year since that first event. It was renamed the "Bob Davids Chapter" in 1992 by a vote of the chapter members over the strong objection of its namesake.

SABR's Bob Davids chapter covers the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area. Any SABR member residing in the area  or expressing an interest in the area's baseball teams is welcome to join.

The Bob Davids Chapter has hosted SABR's national convention four times and  holds several regular meetings:

    • An annual chapter meeting featuring research presentations, a trivia contest, and baseball swap meet, typically in January.
    • Hot Stove Meetings are informal baseball discussions. There are two regular venues:
      •  The Hard Times Cafe, 3028 Wilson Blvd in Arlington, VA at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month, and
      • The Tastee Diner, 8601 Cameron St. in Silver Spring, MD at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month.
    • "Talkin' Baseball", traditionally a talk with a local baseball author, 9 a.m. on the second Saturday of every month, at Brighton Gardens of Columbia, 7110 Minstrel Way in Columbia, MD.
    • The Chapter also typically hosts two outings each year -- one to a game at a nearby major league stadium and one to a minor league game. These outings often include presentations related to the team being visited.
