Spends a Sun-ny Day in Hagerstown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by David Hughes<\/p>\n<p>The annual minor league outing for SABR\u2019s Bob Davids Chapter took place on August 17, where 25 chapter members gathered for a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/www.milb.com\/index.jsp?sid=l116\">South Atlantic League<\/a> game at <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/images\/blog\/wysiwyg\/image\/Hagerstown_Suns-Stadium%281%29.jpg\">Hagerstown Municipal Stadium<\/a>. \u00a0Thanks go to event organizer David Newman.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/baseballsociologist.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/09\/dscn1821.jpg\">Municipal Stadium<\/a> is a historic ballpark and, despite its age, has a certain rustic charm. \u00a0The evening\u2019s activities began in the picnic area, with <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/staatalent.com\/client\/eli-pearlstein\/\">Eli Pearlstein<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/www.milb.com\/index.jsp?sid=t563\">Suns<\/a>\u2019 Director of Media Relations, Radio Announcer, and general public information officer) addressing the group and leading a Q&amp;A about the team, the stadium, his job, and his career experience and aspirations. \u00a0Eli acknowledged that he has a long way to go to achieve his career goals, and he is working his way up from the bottom rungs. \u00a0Unfortunately, while Eli (and virtually everyone else present) knew the significance of two of the stadium\u2019s three retired numbers (located on decals on the wall in the right field corner, two of the numbers are \u201c42\u201d for Jackie Robinson and \u201c24\u201d for Willie Mays), he could not answer for the third number on the wall, \u201c50\u201d (a few days later, an outside source provided the answer: the \u201c50\u201d is for John Henry Moss, highlighting his 50 years of service to the South Atlantic League). \u00a0A fourth decal on the outfield wall commemorates the late <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Nick+Adenhart&amp;oq=Nick+Adenhart&amp;aqs=chrome..69i57j5j0l2.257j0&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\">Nick Adenhart<\/a>, former <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/teams\/LAA\/2009.shtml\">Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim<\/a> pitcher who played many years of youth baseball in the Hagerstown area.<\/p>\n<p>After Eli\u2019s presentation, chapter President Bruce Brown moderated an impromptu trivia contest. \u00a0The champion crowned that evening was Paul Sekula, with the prize being a DVD of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/hankgreenbergfilm.org\/\"><i>The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg<\/i><\/a>.\u201d \u00a0After a hearty ballpark buffet, we had the opportunity to watch <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/www.milb.com\/milb\/stats\/stats.jsp?sid=milb&amp;t=p_pbp&amp;pid=543561\">Brett Mooneyham<\/a> (Nationals\u2019 3rd rounder out of <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/www.gostanford.com\/SportSelect.dbml?DB_LANG=C&amp;DB_OEM_ID=30600&amp;SPID=127025&amp;SPSID=749985\">Stanford<\/a>, 2012) face those pesky <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/www.milb.com\/index.jsp?sid=t573\">Tourists from Ashville<\/a>, including the league\u2019s then-leading hitter, 20-year old <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20131110172220\/http:\/\/www.milb.com\/milb\/stats\/stats.jsp?sid=milb&amp;t=p_pbp&amp;pid=594011\">Rosell Herrera<\/a> (Rockies\u2019 free agent, Dominican Republic). \u00a0Mooneyham was dominant in the game, as he went 7 innings with 9 Ks. \u00a0Hagerstown won the crisp, 2:15 contest, 4-0, before an announced crowd of
