Robert Davids, a veteran of World War II, a long time federal employee, and a frequently published author on topics including Congressional history and baseball. In 1971 he invited a group of individuals who shared his interest in baseball history and statistics to meet in Cooperstown, New York &#8212; resulting in the formal establishment of the Society for American Baseball Research.
